RK Development Group is a small, owner-operated custom home builder serving North Liberty, Coralville, Iowa City, Tiffin, Solon, and the surrounding corridor. The "owner-operated" part isn't marketing language — when you hire RK Development, you're hiring Craig Kuepker, and Craig is the person on your jobsite, on your selections meetings, and on your phone when something needs an answer.

We've intentionally stayed small. A handful of homes a year, on purpose. That keeps Craig involved in every build at a level most production builders gave up on years ago.

A different path into building.

Most custom home builders came up through the trades — framing, roofing, finish carpentry — and learned the planning, permitting, and project management side later. Craig came up the other way.

Before founding RK Development Group, Craig worked as a civil engineering technician — land surveying and construction staking on everything from residential foundations to large commercial projects across Eastern Iowa. He earned Iowa DOT certification for concrete testing and inspection, which meant years on commercial job sites making sure the work actually met spec before the next phase could start.

That background changes how a custom home gets built:

• Sites are surveyed and staked correctly the first time. No "we found the corner pin in the wrong place" calls halfway through framing.
• Concrete actually meets spec. Foundations, slabs, and footings get the same scrutiny as the commercial DOT projects we spent years inspecting.
• Drainage, grading, and lot conditions are planned in design, not discovered during construction.
• Tricky sites — rural acreage, sloped lake lots, hillside builds — get built without the "unexpected site conditions" phone call.

Engineering and inspection first, building second. That's the order we work in, and it's why our buyers don't get the calls other builders' buyers get.

What we build.

We build custom homes between $500K and $1.5M+ across the Iowa City corridor. Some clients start with one of our proven floor plans — the Yorkshire, the Peyton, the William, the Royal Oak — and modify them to fit. Some come to us with a Pinterest board, a lot, and a vision, and we design the home from zero. Either path works. We're a build-to-suit builder, which means every plan is a starting point and every home is shaped to fit the family who'll live in it.

We've been recognized for our work — including Runner-up at the 2018 Iowa City Home Builders Parade of Homes for our Peyton build in Aspen Ridge — but the recognition we care most about is the one we earn one year after closing, when we come back for the warranty walk and the family is still glad they hired us.

Local, by choice.

RK Development Group is based in North Liberty. Craig lives in the corridor, his kids go to school here, and he runs into past clients at the grocery store. That matters more than buyers sometimes realize — a builder who lives an hour away has different incentives than a builder who's going to bump into you at the hardware store for the next twenty years.

Outside of work, Craig is a dad to Peyton and Grady and spends most weekends on the golf course. He's also a licensed Realtor in Iowa, which means clients who are buying land or selling their current home before building can sometimes get the whole transaction handled under one roof — though most of his real estate work happens through Ruhl & Ruhl Realtors, separate from RK Development Group.
